Junior Club

The Junior Youth Club is for children aged 7 to 11 and meets on Tuesday and Thursday evenings.

The Junior Youth Club is for children aged 7 to 11 and runs on Tuesday and Thursday evenings throughout the year. It provides opportunities for children to participate in a range of activities in a safe, caring and stimulating environment. The Club currently has nearly 100 members and approximately 45 children attend each Tuesday and Thursday evening.

We offer a full and varied programme, with regular activities including sports, arts and crafts, singing, music decks including DJ skills, cookery and dancing. At the end of each session we have ‘Circle Time' to enable the children to discuss any issues that have arisen during the evening and to talk about what will happen the following week.

Themed months enable us to cover the curriculum more effectively. Some of the themes we have covered include:

• Healthy Eating Month. Sampling different types of more unusual fruit, salad, vegetables and pastas, as well as talking about nutrition and balanced diets.

• Healthy Living Month. The topics covered include exercise, healthy teeth and gums, personal hygiene and smoking.

• Personal Safety Month. Blue Watch from Feltham Fire Station give a presentation on fire safety. We have discussion groups on stranger danger, road safety and acceptable behaviour.

• Multi-cultural Month. This project is ongoing. We decided to celebrate all the different cultures within the group. So far we have had Ramadan, Christmas and Chinese New Year.

• Deaf Awareness Month. All the children have started to learn Makaton Sign Language. This has been very successful; the children now know the alphabet, days of the week and some everyday signs. This will continue for the foreseeable future and will be linked to National Deaf Awareness Month each May.

Junior club is supported by Children's Choice, Goldsmiths' Company, Mercers' Charitable Foundation and Thames Community Foundation. However, the Club is in urgent need of funds, so any donation you can offer would be invaluable to us. Click here to donate or click on 'Donate!' on our Home page now. Thank you.
